About Me

I am not a professional guide, but an entrepreneur: The Founder and CEO of Local Panda, the website you are currently visiting.

I have lived in Sichuan, Beijing, and Shanghai in China and Stanford in the U.S. over the past 34 years. This is my story:
I was born in southwest China's Sichuan Province, the hometown of pandas, and I spent 18 years there enjoying lots of spicy food.
Then I attended college in Beijing, capital of the Middle Kingdom, where I gained an understanding of how incredibly huge and diverse my country is.
Then I co-founded a startup in Shanghai, and grew it to 1 billion dollars. Through this I learned what it means to work at “China Speed.”
I always wanted to live abroad, so I pursued my master degree at Stanford University, the innovation engine of Silicon Valley, where I learned from my 90 classmates who came from 37 different countries on six continents just how little of the world I had experienced, as well as just how little they knew of my home country. It was then that I made it my mission to show the outside world the China that I know and love.

In August 2017, I moved back to Shanghai. With my partners and colleagues, I cofounded Local Panda with the hope that I can bring authentic China experiences to you and many others who are interested in China.

My Experiences

If you’re the kind of person who thinks that meeting the Founder and CEO of this website could be an awesome experience, then obviously I am your perfect choice. Sadly, I cannot spend a whole-day or half-day showing you around Shanghai, but I can definitely meet you at the Starbucks closest to your hotel and spend an hour doing nothing but talking. We can chat about China's culture, social trend, business opportunities, people's mindset, or any other topics that interest you.

Language Competency Levels

These descriptions should reflect the level of competency of the working language of a guide.

-You understand simple phrases and can communicate only basic ideas. These basic ideas include: Greetings, yes, no, simple directions, telling the time. You can express yourself but only to a certain point. You are able to readand write with limited comprehension, and repeat yourself more than once.

-You are able to better express yourself and give clearer explanations and directions. You can read and understand most information and are able to read it back to the Traveler in a way that he or she can understand. You may have to repeat yourself more than once.

- You can write, read, and speak with very few errors. Communication is clear and you have excellent control over the language. You can translate fromyour language to the other quickly and you very rarely repeat yourself. You can express yourself and can talk about more abstract things; science, politics, philoophy, history, without any problems.

- You have native* control of the language. You articulate clearly and effectively, and you do not have to translate between your language and the other. You make few, if any, grammatical mistakes. Linguistic expression comes naturally and you have no problems working in that language.

* Native control means you speak as if you were a native speaker of that language; you have grown up with, been educated in, and spoken that language your entire life
