Stroll in the historical embellished Forbidden City

Theater walk · Beijing

  • Duration: 8 hours

What to Expect

The Forbidden city is one of those wonders that was built to impress, and it still holds up to this day. We’ll start at Tiananmen Square and work our way up through the palace. Tiananmen literally means "Gate of Heavenly Peace" and was built in 1415 as the entranceway of the palace. With its imposing fortress-like front, it is no surprise that it is still used to impress and intimidate foreign rulers today. As we make our way through the palace, I’ll fill your head with the tales it has to tell, both ancient and modern. We’ll delve into the lives of the Empress, the eunuch administrators, the Emperor, and his army of Concubines. After we exit the Forbidden City we’ll head to the Imperial theater and garden for a relaxing stroll. The forbidden palace can either be a place with a million interesting things to see or a bunch of boring, empty courtyards, and that all depends on who you go with. So pick me to guide you through one of the world’s most important palaces.
