What to Expect

While Shanghai has its big attractions like the Bund, museums, and skyline, ask any local and they’ll tell you that the best way to experience Shanghai is to simply walk the organized chaos of its city streets and see what people are up to. This tour starts in Fuxing Park, where you’ll immediately get a feel for both Shanghainese and Chinese local culture. From Taichi and fan dancing to expert diabolo spinning, to Chinese chess, the park is alive with a culture completely alien from anything you’ve likely experienced in the west. You are also welcome to join in! Next, we’ll head to the wet market to see how the locals buy their meat and produce. There's an old saying in China that goes, "Food is the paramount necessity of the people". Local people prefer to buy their food very fresh on a daily basis, and by very fresh I mean they usually bag the fish, frogs, and eels when they are still alive! It’s an experience you won’t soon forget. Afterwards, I will take you to feast your stomach by all kinds of Shanghai DimSum, from steamed buns, to won-ton soup, barbecued mutton, and much more adventurous delicacies. Bravery is not required, but those who are willing to go for the more-exotic foods are always rewarded! Finally, we’ll walk through the historic French concession, starting at Wukang Road and heading eastward. We’ll stroll along the romantic tree-lined streets and check out the beautiful old victorian mansions on the backdrop of Shanghai’s modernity. Every street corner has something new to explore, so if you want to really experience what Shanghai has to offer, this is THE tour to take.
